Social Media is a Bubble & SXSW is a Fad
If you’re a brand marketer, the two words “social” and “media” are probably emailed to you far too often by bosses in search of the elusive “1 million Facebook fans” or the ever popular “viral video.” Just like the hyper-color t-shirt, the slap bracelet, Members Only jackets and boybands, SXSW badges fly off their virtual shelves each March with techies flocking in droves to attend along with random tastemakers, a crew that last year included Mike Tyson.
The bubble of social media is so intriguing to us as social media marketers that we’ve gone and formed a panel to discuss it at SXSW, the pinnacle of all conferences attended by 2.0 “influencers” that will go down in March 2012 in the great city of Austin, Texas.
Here’s where you come in….It takes your votes (send them on in here , it only takes a few seconds) to get us onto that stage with our crew of stellar thought leaders to host our aptly titled panel: ‘Social Media Is a Bubble and SXSW Is a Fad‘.
Our amazing panel includes:
- Curtis Hougland, CEO of Attention, Moderator (@Curtis_Hougland)
- Josh Levine, Founder & CEO Rebel Industries, (@Jlevine)
- Lincoln Lopez, VP, VH1 (@vh1 )
- Jennifer Lopez, Director, DumbDumb Productions (@lopezjenniferw)
- Yujin Chung, Business Development, Andreessen Horowitz (@Enderdoon)
The panel will focus on the hype of SXSW and the eery similarities between the tech bubble of the late 90s and the current landscape, marked by four distinct attributes:
- Dizzying Competition
- Inflated Salaries
- Tremendous Hype
- Escalating Valuations
Every vote counts so if you can take a few moments and click a ‘thumbs up’ for us we’d greatly appreciate it.
You can view all SXSW panels here. The panelpicker can be a little muddled but you can always search by festival type, keywords, or do a random search. Much of the power is in your hands as 30% of the decision-making process is via public votes and commenting so let’s make it COUNT.
We look forward to seeing you there! Breakfast tacos on us.
